- Chapter Eight - My First Girlfriend |
![]() Sorry, this is the only pic I could find--she's kinda young in this, Violet is the one on the left, Erin is on Barb's lap I remember while in the cafeteria, I heard some of the kids singing the usual songs associated with making fun of those who are deemed to be "in love." You know, like the song "First comes love, then comes marriage . . ." type of things. I think mostly it originated from Jimmy, one of the few (non)-friends I had at the school in Decatur. He always claimed not to like me, but for some reason we always hung out, in a sense, together with Matt at recess. I went over to her house quite a bit since she lived next door, and our moms were good friends. I don't remember all we did together. I remember one time they had a bunch of wood at their house, so we-Violet, Erin, and I-put it together like a little dome type house with an old storm door as the roof. The fun with that lasted a while until the wood had to be used, so it slowly dwindled to a wall, and then to nothing. There isn't really that much I remember about her, or what we may have done together. The last time I saw her was two or three years ago-our moms are still fairly good friends-and my mom sometimes goes over to visit. Lately, though, she has been visiting on weekends that I am not available to go with her, so it has been a while since I've seen Violet. I have never had a female friend who was as close to me as Violet was, and I hardly have any female friends now. Though, some of the other friends I had during this time I wouldn't mind meeting back up with. |
